An Uncommon Truck in
Exceptional Condition

This is a very clean, rust-free, one-of-a-kind medium-duty pickup finished in bright yellow with black accents and a custom yellow-and-black leather interior. It has been kept in excellent overall condition and stored indoors most of its life.

Powered by the proven LLY Duramax diesel paired with an Allison automatic transmission, this truck runs and drives exceptionally well with no known engine issues, transmission issues, or dash warning lights.

The Monroe conversion transforms the commercial C4500 chassis into a full pickup-truck configuration — complete with a proper bed, crew cab comfort, and road presence that nothing else on the road can match.

About the Build

What Is a Monroe Conversion?

Monroe Truck Equipment is a Wisconsin-based upfitter that has been converting commercial chassis into specialty vehicles since 1958. Their C4500/C5500 pickup conversion takes the bare GMC TopKick (or Chevrolet Kodiak) cab-and-chassis — a medium-duty commercial platform — and transforms it into a fully functional pickup truck.

The conversion includes fabricating and installing a full pickup bed, integrating rear lighting, adding proper bumpers, and finishing the truck so it looks and functions like a factory-built pickup — but on a much heavier, more capable platform. The result is a truck with the towing and payload capacity of a commercial vehicle combined with the comfort and drivability of a personal-use pickup.

These conversions were never mass-produced. Each truck was built to order, making them inherently rare. The C4500 platform features a GVWR of 16,500 lbs, full air brakes (on some configurations), a frame rated for serious work, and the same proven Duramax/Allison powertrain found in the 2500HD and 3500HD — but in a chassis designed to handle significantly more weight and stress.

Because of their rarity, capability, and unique road presence, Monroe-converted TopKicks and Kodiaks have become highly collectible among truck enthusiasts. They offer something no factory half-ton or one-ton truck can: true medium-duty strength in a package you can drive every day.

Condition & Transparency

As with any 20-year-old specialty truck, there are a few small cosmetic items worth noting, but nothing that takes away from how well this truck presents overall.

  • The brake light under the tailgate will need to be replaced
  • A few minor paint blemishes and a scratch near the upper driver-side bedside
  • Passenger-side bedside plastic trim can lift slightly at highway speed
  • Metal steps could be freshened up with black paint; diamond plate itself is in good shape
  • Small area on the rear driver-side door where paint is slightly faded in one spot (clear coat looks good, not especially noticeable)

Air System Note

A previous owner added a second air tank for the air horn using an air hose connection. Because the tanks do not equalize the way they should, the compressor cycles more often than preferred. A manual switch has been wired in — simply air the system up before driving to fill the bags, then shut the compressor off. The truck will also come with two brand-new compressors.
